Women In the Biblical Tradition
A detail of Eva Carter's project. (See student projects below)

The Women in the Biblical Tradition Home page was created for the course, Women in the Biblical Tradition, offered at Appalachian State University.

This course is designed to "introduce and analyze some of the stories of and laws about women in the Hebrew Bible, Christian Scripture and Apocrypha. Also, it "will explore both the Ancient Near Eastern background of these texts, including how goddess traditions relate to the understanding of God in these texts, as well as how these texts continue to have an impact on our contemporary secular and sacred communities." Furthermore, it takes a "methodological approach to the texts favored by feminist and womanist biblical critics and how women are changing the discipline of biblical studies." (Syllabus)
