The images in this gallery were taken by Weymouth based photographer Alan Jones.

Most were taken during The Parade of Sail across Weymouth Bay prior to the start of the race.

The Parade of Sail was viewed by well in excess of half a million people and was without doubt one of the most spectacular events the South Coast of England has ever witnessed.

In Alan's Gallery you will find thumbnail images of many of the ships in full sail each of which is a link to a page which includes details of the ship and an in line larger JPEG 24 bit true colour image. We have tried to keep image size down below 30k in all cases.

Weymouth continues to be a port much visited by many tall ships from around the world. Notable visits during 1996 included HMS Rose from the USA, The Mathew, The Golden Hind and the Thames Barge Kitty, along with many of the ports regular visitors including, Malcolm Miller, Winston Churchill, Lord Nelson, Royalist, Astrid and many others. We have included images of some of these ships during their visit on our 1996 visitors page.

In 1997 as well as anticipating visits from many 'old friends' of the tall ships community Weymouth will be visited by HM Bark Endeavour as part of her European tour. She plans to be berthed alongside Weymouth quay from 5th to 10th September, where she will be open to the public to enable first hand experience of life aboard this wonderful replica of Captain Cook's original ship which he sailed to Australia in 1768.

Further images of Historic ships can be found within the Resort Guides Portsmouth pages where you will find good images of HMS Victory and HMS Warrior.
