The Municipal Art Gallery of Rhodes

The Municipal Art Gallery of Rhodes is the first building one finds on its right handside, after entering the Medieval City through the Freedom Gate.
The Gallery hosts one of the most significant and most representative collections of Greek painting and engraving of the 20th century. It includes the work of those Greek artists that formed the modern Greek painting, such as G. Bouzianis, F. Kontoglou, Theofilos, N. Hatzikyriakos-Gikas, Spyropoulos, K. Maleas, artists who have worked both in Greece and abroad. The collection of their work is undoubtedly interesting and valuable for the scholar of Modern Greek painting.
The Gallery is visited not only by the local people but also by many visitors and tourists of the island. Today the Gallery hosts 690 exhibits but only 90 are available to the public disposal. The paintings exhibited are changed in regular intervals.
The organisation of specific exhibitions and other artistic events in various buildings of the Medieval town is also among the activities of the Municipal Art Gallery.
