The Department of Theater Arts

William Tate, Department Chair

PSU School of Fine & Performing Arts

The Theater program is committed to providing students with training that instills the high artistic standards required to begin a career in professional or educational theater.

Our curriculum covers the major facets of theater, offering emphases in all major areas of the art. The faculty represents a balance of academic achievement and acting, directing, and design and playwriting credits in the professional theater. Guest artists are a regular part of our program.

Student artistic achievement is developed through a production program that is an extension of the classroom.

The annual Main Stage season features three large scale productions chosen from the contemporary and classical repertory in our 476-seat theater, Lincoln Performance Hall. The 75-seat Studio Theater season presents 15 to 20 student produced and directed productions of traditional and experimental plays. And we're committed to the development of new plays through staged readings and productions.

We co-sponsor the Portland International Performance Festival and a new plays festival.
