Roy Davies has created this site based largely on Glyn Davies' book, "The History of Money from Ancient Times to the Present Day." Using brief excerpts from the book, or expanding on themes with his own essays, R. Davies discusses the origins of money (hey, what is the exchange rate on Fijian whale teeth?), coinage and banking, and the influence of the military and population growth in a context of a "pendulum meta-theory" that says money is "by its very nature dynamically unstable" and as such is in a constant struggle of quantity versus quality. A history that's loaded with economic theory, but don't be daunted -- it's good reading and not overly academic.
