IN MEMORY OF THE 21 CREWMEN OF THE BULK CARRIER "FLARE" WHO LOST THEIR LIVES OFF THE COAST OF ST.PIERRE, MIQUELON ON JANUARY 16, 1998 AND A SALUTE TO THE CANADIAN SEARCH AND RESCUE CREWS WHO PICKED UP THE 4 SURVIVORS AND THE BODIES IN TREACHEROUS WEATHER CONDITIONS.

The province of Nova Scotia in Canada juts out into the Atlantic Ocean. Historically, the major share of the economy of this province has been based on fishing, shipbuilding and sea-faring.
The old way of life of the sea has almost disappeared.

Fishing Facts : The Canadian Government released figures on the value of the Fisheries: $7,689.374.75 for the year for Nova Scotia giving employment to 39,000. For New Brunswick $3,185,674 giving employment to 10,000. For Prince Edward Island $1,272,467.04. For Quebec $2,138,997.12. This is the value of the fisheries catch only, not boats etc. Bridgewater Bulletin August 5, 1885
